The Annual 'Hopping Do'
If you live in Lamberhurst, this historical community event cannot be missed!
The September Hopping Do is renowned for its relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, and a chance for the community to catch up over a bowl of delicious hot stew and pudding. Situated at the end of Brewer Street and Hopgarden outside the Hopping Do Huts, we gather to celebrate in the early evening to dusk, how the Londoners used to visit Lamberhurst in their 'summer holidays' to work on the fields at harvest every year. The Hopping Do was traditionally celebrated on the last day of harvest, for the workers to let off steam and congratulate themselves, before they travelled back to the smoke!
The future of this event is sadly at risk due to the lack of volunteers who help to clear the land before the event, to cook the stew pot, to bake the puddings and to steward the event on the night.
