What Does a Parish Council Do...
The Parish Council
The Parish Council is a body of nine representatives elected by parishioners, to serve the parish community on a 4 year term. Other than the Clerk, all roles are of a voluntary nature.
The Parish Council has direct responsibility for Allotments at The Slade and Brewer Street; The Common Land, The Down & Gravel Pit, Hook Green, Free Heath and the Village Green; Some streetlights; The Shelter, Sports Wall and Children's Playground, the football pitch and the recreational green (which are held in trust by Lamberhurst Playing Field Association); The Public Conveniences to the rear of the Memorial Hall:
It also has a right to be notified of Planning Applications within the parish and may submit comments to the Planning Authority as a consultee.
Other matters that may arise such as problems with PROW's, pavement, potholes, highway or housing matters should first be reported to the responsible body, (TWBC or KCC,) if further action is required, representation should be made, preferably in writing, to the Clerk. If a resident wishes for a matter to be taken up on their behalf they should, in the first instance, discuss it with a member of the Parish Council or the Clerk.
Council Meetings
Parish Council meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every other month, beginning in January, in the Memorial Hall, Lamberhurst from 7.30pm to which members of the public are welcome. There is a 15 minute Public Question Time set aside at the beginning of each meeting for the public to ask questions or comment on items on the agenda. A copy of the Agenda is posted in advance on the Parish Council noticeboards located on the Memorial Hall front wall, in the Village Stores and Hook Green bus shelter.
The Annual Parish Meeting -
This meeting must take place between 1 March and 1 June (inclusive) in each year. The APM is not the parish council's AGM nor is it a council meeting. It is a meeting of parish electors to debate current issues concerning the parish, and usually is held in the Memorial Hall, during April.
All parish electors are entitled to attend the Parish Meeting and vote. The Chair of the Council (or in his/her absence the Vice Chair) must preside if present. If not present, the meeting may appoint a Chair for the evening.
Please check the date in the notice board, shop, village website and parish Facebook page.

N.B. Before contacting the clerk about a particular issue such as reporting a problem, you may like to check what falls under the responsibility of Tunbridge Wells Borough Council, or Kent County Council, such as abandoned vehicles, broken street furniture, faulty street lights, fly tipping, graffiti, potholes, damaged bus shelters etc etc.
