Places To Visit
Lamberhurst Commonland
Lamberhurst is fortunate to have such wonderful, natural open spaces (in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty); available each day for the public to enjoy.
Our Parish Council and 'friends' work hard to preserve, enhance and protect our commonland. If you haven't already explored our beautiful surroundings, why not follow one of the below guides to explore what's on your doorstep including our commonland sites at the Gravel Pit, Free Heath and Hook Green. Bayham Abbey
The impressive ruins, built from golden local sandstone, include much of the 13th-15th century church, the chapter house and a picturesque 14th century gate house.
The Abbey now has a second hand book shop in the Dower House, open and staffed by volunteers every Saturday through November 2021 and in February and March 2022, from 11am to 3pm. Closed in December and January. |
At the same time (11-3pm) there will be Short Talks on the history of the site, so a double reason to visit this important heritage. We also welcome contributions of books in a reasonable condition. They can be delivered at the above times.
English Heritage are seeking more volunteers during this winter and into next year, to join our expanding team. Contact volunteer.enquiries@english-heritage.org.uk or visit the English Heritage website |
