![]() We would like to invite you as a resident of the Parish to take a few minutes of your time to answer these questions on proposed 20mph zones within the village: Following concerns raised by residents, Lamberhurst Parish and Kent County Council’s (KCC) Highway Improvements Team have been reviewing speed limits along certain roads in the village we have ascertained several roads 20 mph restrictions could be installed to help reduce overall speed through the village. This is logged through the Highways Improvement Plan (HIP) as well as any other issues around road safety throughout the Parish. Ahead of any statutory consultation, we are canvasing local opinion, and we have provided this feedback questionnaire for you to tell us your views. This information was also presented at the community meeting in September 2023. If there is no clear consensus, or a strong view on whether the 20 mph zones should be implemented, then these proposals may be abandoned. Either way, the outcome of this pre-consultation engagement will be discussed in detail by Lamberhurst Parish and with the residents and the feedback will be considered as part of any decision-making process. Costs: Kent Highways have produced a cost estimate of £55-60,000 to carry out the surveys and install signage and road-marking, please see images below. There is potential for a structural grant to support the changes to the infrastructure if this was to go ahead. A 20mph speed limit should be designed to be "self-enforcing" so that the traffic naturally keeps to the speed limit. This can sometimes be achieved without additional measures due to the physical layout of the road, on-street parking etc. otherwise physical traffic calming measures may be needed to go along with the introduction of the change in the speed limit. This can include gateway treatments, speed humps, chicanes, road narrowing, and other measures to both physically and visually reinforce the reduced speed limit.
